Doctor Who Series 6 Episode 12: Closing Time

Near the end of the doctor's life, he decides to spend some bonding time with his old friend, Craig Owens. Turns out Craig has done rather well for himself; he's still with Sophie, and they have a nice new house and a nice new baby named Stormageddon/Alfie. Why the doctor wanted to visit him exactly is unclear, but I guess he's part of the farewell tour. The doctor feels his death is coming soon, based on that computer monitor he saw earlier in the TARDIS.

What keeps the doctor with Craig for a while are the return of the Cybermen, to star in their very own episode since Moffat took over. The cybermen plot itself wasn't that sophisticated: a group of six cybermen need power and parts and people to rebuild before taking over earth.

This was more of a nice episode before the grand finale. It was good to see Craig again, and his chemistry with the doctor is very nice. I like how often the doctor spoke baby language. And him seeing Amy and Rory for a bit in the store; you could see the longing in his eyes, and the sadness.

The end was the real hook for the next episode. I really thought it was little River who killed the doctor, but I suppose that doesn't make sense. If it was little River, why was Mel still trying to do him in during "Let's Kill Hitler!"? The whole River timeline is way too confusing now. So this River who kills the doctor is older than "The Time of Angels," since she's now a doctor. And Madame Kovarian is still following her, stuffing her into an astronaut suit and keeping her at the bottom of Lake Silencio, waiting for the doctor to arrive. And so begins "The Wedding of River Song."

Next week: Answers, answers, and perhaps a few questions as River Song gets married.
